Once the generator set, switchgear and associated control panel have been sized, a layout plan must be prepared. To ensure the correct installation of the power supply system, it is necessary to pay special attention to the engineering of both the mechanical and electrical parts.

The following factors affecting installation should be discussed:

• Location to provide access and service;
• Load on the floor;
• Vibration transmitted to buildings and equipment;
• Ventilation of the premises;
• The location of the pipeline for engine exhaust gases and its insulation;
• Noise reduction;
• Method of engine cooling;
• The size and location of the fuel tank.
• Local, national or insurance regulations;
• Smoke and radiation parameters.
